If there's any part of the story (I mean the novel/-ella) that you've got well fleshed out in your head, I think that's where you should start. You can always build around it depending on how it's going. I remember reading these stories, and when I read the second I was surprised to find, hey, I know these girls, but this one's from a different perspective. Looking forward to "Life with Zen"!

Me's read both several times :) Niklas likes the elegance first person offers by enabling the use of I and me, but prefers the distance of third person. In the guides Niklas have they say "show not tell", but if you go first person full out with thoughts, then that's telling not showing, Niklas thinks.

As for writing, Marie should just write, write and write, and not worry about anything. Then, if it turns out goodish, she can do a neat rewrite and she'll know the characters better by then and it'll be better too, and everyone will be happy! :D

I liked what I read of the stories before.

Can you get back in the flow by writing very short PoVs... a couple hundred words or less and then start in on the novella? idk, but I think the characters have potential and I'd like to read more about them. *encourage encourage* >:)
