So let’s say you have a PC or Playstation gamer who wants to play the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider, here is what you do not say to them:
Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.
It is almost as bad as when Microsoft exec Don Mattrick brushed off always online concerns about Xbox One by saying: “Fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity, it’s called Xbox 360”.
I know why Microsoft wants this to be exclusive (how exclusive is hard to get confirmation on) but Tomb Raider isn’t what I would call a system seller. I’m not going to go out and buy an Xbox for it, that’s for sure, and considering Sony is at 10 million units sold it’s going to take more than Lara Croft to push those Xbones. And I can guess why Crystal Dynamics did it: money.
But my god at least be semi-upfront about it. Trying to pacify people by telling them they can play the prequel and some offshoot of the series just feels like salt in the wound. Needless to say the Internet has reacted in kind.
